On Monday, April 16, 2007, Athletes for Charity hosted a sports art exhibit and silent auction at Slate to support its charitable initiatives on behalf of foster care youth in New York City. The invitation-only event helped raise funds to support an upcoming Sports Day at Chelsea Piers for over 100 foster care youths. The event was hosted by Michael Strahan of the New York Giants and actress Gabrielle Union.

The Art exhibit featured abstract portraits of various athletes and an exclusive showcase of original artwork by Adam Port (www.adamport.com). Silent Auction items featured autographed footballs by various New York Giants players including Michael Strahan (NY Giants), autographed jerseys by various NFL players including Osi Umenyiora (NY Giants) and Darren Sharper (Minnesota Vikings), and autographed items by Stephon Marbury (NY Knicks).

Entertainment for the evening was provided by Michael Imperiolli of “The Soprano’s” with his band La Dolce Vita as well as by popular punk-rock / alternative band the Death of Fashion. Guests in attendance included actresses Meagan Good and Essence Atkins; Comedian/Actor Kenan Thompson; New York Giants players Jason Bell, Reuben Droughns, Derrick Ward, and Osi Umenyiora; New York Jets players Laveraneaus Coles, Victor Hobson, and Thomas Jones; Minnesota Viking Visanthe Shiancoe; New York Knicks players Quentin Richardson, Malik Rose, Channing Frye; New Jersey Nets players Antoine Wright, Clifford Robinson, and Bernard Robinson.
