Athletes for Charity treated our summer interns from the High School of Sports Management to a trip to the training camp of the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants, in August 2008.  We made it up there just in time, as camp was due to come to a close the following day.  Upon arrival students immediately met NYG Community Relations Manager Ethan Medley and who provided them with VIP Access Passes that allowed the youth to bypass the fan stands and head within arm’s length of the players near the practice field. Mr. Medley spoke with the youth about his educational and career background which led to his current position and urged them to pursue what they are most passionate about as possible career options.

The trip to the New York Giants training camp was a once in a life experience,” stated James Cooper, Athletes for Charity Intern and Sophomore at the High School of Sports Management.  “I had the time of my life and receive many autographs and took many pictures with the super bowl winning New York Giants.”

At the close of practice our interns were afforded the opportunity to meet with multiple players including Shaun O’Hara, Sam Madison, and Guy Whimper.  Was no surprise though that Plaxico snubbed the kids and would have no part in signing any autographs – LOL. Later they were also invited to the player’s dorm cafeteria where they had an opportunity to meet, greet and eat lobster and succulent crabs with the likes of Amani Toomer, Derrick Ward, Domenik Hixon and Michael Jennings, to name a few.  The students received Super Bowl Champion paraphernalia courtesy of the NY Giants.  The students expressed the day as a “dream come true” and “the best day of my life.”  Ironically many of the players were as impressed with our interns and the fact that there is actually High School of Sports Management.

Special thanks to Ethan Medley of the New York Giants for making such an opportunity possible for our youth and to Kareem Edwards of Athletes for Charity for providing transportation.
